£1,850Very rare scagliola fireplace circa 1880. Scagliola is made from selenite glue and natural pigments imitating marble it was first made in Italy in the 17th century. It is very rare to see a fireplace for sale as it is easily broken when moved so not many survive. This fireplace is imitating carrara marble with siena columns. There is a scagliola fireplace in the queens closet at Ham House, Surrey.
